The Summary

But BBH is also a creative business in a highly vibrant environment and requires a special type of People Manager. One who understands and is passionate about how a creative business operates and can provide creative and commercial solutions.

Reporting to the People Director, with excellent relationship management and the ability to develop strong commercial partnerships with key people within the agency, these are core components to this role. Equally important is the demonstration of up to date employment law knowledge and creative cutting edge HR and Talent trends and practices.

Key Responsibilities

Relationship Management

  • Gains buy in from department heads, senior management and senior members of the agency to People initiatives and acts as a sounding board, advisor and “partner.”
  • Develops and maintains good relationships throughout the agency.
  • Gives honest and clear feedback, advising teams and management and together reaching the best commercial decision.
  • Provides a safe and confidential communication channel for all BBH’ers, establishing the trust and confidence of employees at all levels.
  • Facilitates employees to better manage their careers, department talent, personal development through appropriate consultation and advice.

Creativity

  • Consistently generates new ideas and initiatives and is proactive in suggesting positive change.
  • Proactively monitors agency performance to ascertain if any HR action is required and looks for ways to improve the People offering to the business.
  • Contributes to the creation and maintenance of the optimum “inspirational” working environment.
  • Designs and delivers People related workshops such as best practice interview training, appraisal training etc.
  • Partners the line managers to scope out and deliver innovative learning and development opportunities that deliver against the agency agenda.

Commercial Acumen

  • Provides creative, bespoke solutions to employee relation challenges.
  • Possesses a solid commercial understanding of the business, able to advise internal stakeholders appropriately.
  • Understands people as both an asset and a resource and establishes consistent people development practices throughout the agency.
  • Effectively contributes to the management of change and growth from the “people perspective.”

Intellectual Property

  • Contributes to discussions and negotiations surrounding employee contracts, terms and conditions, salaries, benefits and is responsible for ensuring a consistent approach is adopted throughout the agency.
  • Strives to learn new skills, proactively educates and updates the People team and management on employment law, HR market trends and thinking and ensures the agency is properly informed and equipped to deal with change initiatives.
  • Liaises with external lawyers as and when appropriate.

Skills / Experience Required

Attitude

  • A passion for working as a HR professional within a creative environment.
  • Resilience to keep going under time pressures.
  • “Sweats the small stuff” as well as caring about the bigger picture.
  • Demonstrates a strong bias to action and strives for excellence.
  • A team player and with a keen interest in motivating and inspiring the People team.

Skills/Abilities

  • Excellent communicator, comfortable dealing with employees at all levels and able to work as a partner with Department Heads and senior management.
  • Excellent time management skills, with the ability to handle the day to day workload as well as specific projects. Brings all projects in on time, within budget to the highest standard, without being chased.
  • Proven Employee Relations experience, in particular restructures and TUPE.
  • Demonstrates commercial acumen.
  • Proven ability to generate creative ideas.
  • Ability to design and deliver in-house training workshops, for example best practice appraisals, interviewing.
  • Strategically and commercially focused but also practically minded: able to roll sleeves up and get stuck in.
  • Effectively manages the Agency’s administration systems.
  • Deals with confidential information with tact and diplomacy.

Knowledge and Experience

  • Proven experience working as a HR generalist within the creative industry, digital agency experience would be advantageous.
  • Track record of driving and managing successful People initiatives and projects.
  • Has credibility with senior management and senior people.
  • Proven experience of operating in a dynamic, fast-paced, creative environment where change is constant and creativity in relation to process is key.
  • Experience of managing TUPE processes, restructures and mergers and acquisitions would be an advantage but not essential.

Qualifications

  • CIPD qualified preferable
